SUBANG JAYA: For Veronica Tchee, opening a one-stop wedding gifts and favours centre came as a RM100,000.00 investment, which she expects will break even in the next six months. The 31-year old entrepreneur of The Wedding Cottage in Subang Avenue (next to Carrefour & Subang Parade) is looking at a targeted quantum of RM50,000.00 monthly from the sales volume once the Subang Avenue Promenade – five levels of retail shops, restaurants, cafes and bistros below the Subang Avenue Serviced Suites – comes into full operation by mid year. “We chose this place as it is a strategic location within Subang Jaya and there is a good flow of human traffic here. The shop rental is also affordable at the RM2000.00 range,” she said.
The Wedding Cottage is not just another typical wedding gift shop around town, added Tchee. “Couples nowadays want their weddings to be as unique as possible and characterized. Hence we do a lot of customized items. These items vary from personalizing gifts, decorations to adding an individualized touch to weddings, we meet every couple’s request according to their wedding theme and budget. We also cater to the different races within our country in which we provide Western, Chinese and Malay wedding gifts, accessories as well as necessities. Our next target is the Indian community,” Tchee said.
Together with her boyfriend, she embarked upon the project of setting up her own business, which she described as a “happy” one being a wedding planner of sorts. “It’s my passion and there’s lots of excitement in making a couple’s special day perfect. There are risks in running a business but this is my breakthrough in hitting my 30’s. “Positive thinking and commitment are keys”, she said.
Previously a marketing manager in a healthcare company, Tchee said she intends to approach bridal boutiques and restaurants to market The Wedding Cottage’s range of products and services. The Kuching hailed Tchee in a way followed the footsteps of her mother who was a bride’s attendant.
